About Dr Bhatta

My Story & Background

Dr A D Bhatta was born in Nepal, a Himalayan nation in South Asia. He obtained his medical degree from the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia in Moscow in 1999. Following graduation, he returned to Nepal where he completed his internship and community service before working as a Medical Officer at Medicare National Hospital & Research Centre. During this period, he developed a strong foundation in General Surgery and Orthopaedics.

In 2005, Dr Bhatta relocated to South Africa to pursue postgraduate training in Orthopaedic Surgery. After successfully completing the HPCSA Board Examination, he underwent extensive specialist training at multiple hospitals affiliated with the Department of Orthopaedics at the Nelson Mandela School of Medicine, University of KwaZulu-Natal.

He completed the Higher Diploma in Orthopaedics in 2012, obtained the Fellowship of the College of Orthopaedic Surgeons of South Africa (FC Orth SA) in 2016, and was awarded the Master of Medicine in Orthopaedic Surgery (MMed Ortho) by the University of KwaZulu-Natal in 2017.

Training & Experience

With training and professional experience across Russia, Nepal, and South Africa, Dr Bhatta brings over two decades of medical and surgical expertise to his practice. Since 2017, he has been practising with the well-established orthopaedic group BMR & Partners in Durban, providing comprehensive orthopaedic care with a particular focus on hip and knee reconstruction.

Arthroplasty & Robotic Surgery

Dr Bhatta has a specialised interest in hip and knee arthroplasty, including modern robotic-assisted knee replacement surgery. His approach combines advanced surgical planning, precision technology, and evidence-based techniques aimed at improving alignment, recovery, function, and long-term outcomes for patients undergoing joint replacement surgery.

His practice also includes revision arthroplasty, hip preservation procedures, arthroscopic surgery, trauma management, and sports injury care.

Dr Bhatta believes in delivering patient-centred orthopaedic care grounded in clinical excellence, empathy, and trust. He places strong emphasis on patient education and shared decision-making, ensuring that every patient fully understands their condition and treatment options.
